Fire Department

The Brazil City Fire Department and its dedicated thirteen members serve our community by ensuring the highest quality in professional fire protection and safety.  The City Fire Department protects the City of Brazil, Brazil Township and industry within the industrial park. The Department operates several important programs with a focus on training, safety and fire prevention.

In December of 2005 the department replaced its call-in procedure by implementing a pager response program for off-duty firefighters, increasing the department’s number of responding personnel per incident. This program ensures adequate levels for firefighting in the protection of life and property and increases on scene personnel levels to meet minimums and safety requirements set by IOSHA.

Fire Safety presentations and fire prevention education for the public includes both on-site presentations and fire station tours. Educators, businesses and organizations can schedule fire safety education and extinguisher training by contacting the department during normal business hours. Through a donation by Great Dane Trailers the department now has a “live burn barrel” for its extinguisher training classes, giving the participants a “hands on” opportunity with extinguishers.

An on-site fire safety presentation brings the Fire Department to you and your classroom. Children can see the firefighters, the fire engines and meet Fire Pup with a schedule that is more conducive and takes less time than a station tour.

Department Drill Training uses a “hands on” approach in department training for its members. You may see the department off station and training with apparatus and simulated drills at different structures and facilities. This type of training puts written operating procedures and protocol in action under training conditions. This allows for review of these procedures for improvements in operations and familiarizes firefighters with these tactics.

These are just a few of the programs the dedicated members of the department practice and provide for our community.  Sections of our web page cover other information regarding open burning regulations, pre-incident planning and the free smoke detector program and its supporters.
