A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FOREST PARK POOL
The first pool to be in Forest Park was a circular pool that was built in 1931. Cost of materials was $10,000. Since the construction took place during the Great Depression, the labor was provided by the WPA. This pool was in use until the 1970’s.
Through the use of a grant and donations that took several years to collect, a new pool (current one) was constructed in 1978. It holds 210,000 gallons of water and progresses in depth from 3 ½ for shallow swimming to 10 feet for diving.
A 45 foot long water slide was added in 1987 at the shallow end of the pool and there is currently one diving board available at the deep end. The pool is handicapped accessible via a lift mechanism. This mechanism is kept in storage, but can be put into place rapidly if needed.
An electronic filtering system was replaced in 1998. This system gets serviced every year and repairs are made as needed.
Repairs were made in 2003 to the slide ladder, the pool liner and the pool house roof were also replaced that year.
A popular spot to enjoy the summer, it is hoped that the Forest Park pool will continue to provide enjoyment to the citizens of the City for many years to come.
